Name: Jack W. Skay Dates: Birth date: January 14, 1930 Death date: June 20, 2012 Obituary: Jack W. Skay, of Iowa City, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics from complications of an aortic aneurysm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:00 am at the Newman Catholic Student Center in Iowa City with Father Walter Helms officiating. (Sunday Parking ordinance will be in effect for the north side of Jefferson Street). Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City.Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jack W. Skay Memorial Fund. Jack (John William) was born January 14, 1930 in Iowa City, the son of John W. and Marcella (Wenzlick) Skay. He was a graduate of City High School in Iowa City. Jack married Patricia Kral on July 2, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Jack farmed for many years in the Johnson county area and for more than 25 years, drove trucks for Carl Chadek Trucking. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Newman Catholic Student Center. Jack enjoyed the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City antique and automobile clubs, and the vintage Chevrolet clubs. He volunteered at the Johnson County Historical Society/Car Museum. His 1941 red Chevy pickup made annual appearances in the City High Parade. Survivors include his wife Pat; children, Lisa Krall (Jeff) of Iowa City, Brian Skay (Dawn) and Dennis Skay (Martha), all of West Branch; grandchildren, Jerad (Maddy) Krall, Ryan Krall, Brittnee Skay, Emylee Skay, Raychel Skay and Mitchel Skay; and very special friends, Chuck and Maleah McKay; Chad and Meagan McKay; and brother, Tom Skay (Shirley) of West Branch. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jim, a sister Mary and a granddaughter, Linzee. Memorials: Jack W. Skay Memorial Fund.
