Faye E. Clinton
Birth date: March 19, 1915
Death date: August 16, 2012
Faye E. Clinton, 97, of Coralville, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Faye was born March 19, 1915 in Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Ulysses and Bertha (Penrose) Harris. She married Elbert L. Hildebrand in 1934 in Charles City. The couple later divorced. Faye then married John H. Clinton in 1951 and they were later divorced.
Faye grew up in Clarksville, Iowa. She raised her children and worked as a cook at many restaurants – including Bishop’s Buffet in Waterloo. She later lived in the West Branch area. Moving to North Liberty over 30 years ago, Faye worked as a librarian’s assistant at the North Liberty Library. She also enjoyed being a foster grandparent to school children at Penn Elementary in North Liberty.
Faye enjoyed life – and she enjoyed laughing. She would often dress up in goofy glasses or hats or other accessories for occasions like St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, or the annual Christmas get-together. She loved to act the fool and make her friends laugh.
Faye accepted the new technology of personal computers and embraced their ability - developing her own page – "Faye’s Page" which went to the residents of her building. She included the residents' birthdays for the month, jokes, pithy sayings and food for thought. Everyone looked forward to her page every month.
Faye thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends and acquaintances, going to breakfasts by the firemen, Boy Scouts, and other community organizations. She looked forward to weekly card and bingo games, after which she was frequently able to brag about winning the "pot" -- maybe 28 cents, or in one instance, an apple and an orange.
When Faye was 79, she did something she had long wanted to do: she went on a hot-air balloon ride. It was one of her favorite memories. Although she had many health set-backs over the years, she amazed the doctors and friends and family alike with her positive attitude, resilience and ability to overcome whatever obstacles faced her, and to do it in the shortest time she could. She had much too much fun waiting to be had to be held up by medical inconveniences.
Survivors include her children, Lyle Hildebrand (Alice) of Sebring, Florida, Les Hildebrand (Paula) of Des Moines and Elizabeth Hildebrand of Waterloo, Sharon Frauenholtz of Port Isabel, Texas, John Clinton (Pam) of Waterloo and Gerry Clinton (Julie) of Conesville; 16 grandchildren, numerous great and several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
