It seems so long ago when I first met "Mrs. Young," the mother of a new girl with long braids in my third grade class at University Elementary School in Iowa City. Susan, I will never forget your mother. She had a smile for everyone she met; I do not recall ever seeing her without her friendly small and a good word for every person she met. I recall her standing behind the counter at Young's Studio when I would walk by after school. She was a very talented women who could catch beautiful images of others with her camera, and she obviously passed her skills and talent on to you. She was always patient and supported all the activies we little girls had, be it Brownies or Girl Scouts or some other thing we dreamed up to do. I recall when you all lived above and behind the photography studio on Dubuque Street, you first house, and how excited I was when I learned that your parents had built a new home on the corner of Muscatine Avenue and Garden Street where I lived. My love to you, your brother, and sisters at this special time...Carrie Means Bitterwolf

Looking at your mother's photo and obituary this morning brought back many warm memories. I can clearly hear her cheerful voice, remembering the times I would visit your home. She was a strong and resilient woman in so many ways! I know how much she will be missed. My sympathies are with your family. Mary Lee
